Hey, I'm Katie!
My name is Katie O’Shea, and I am an artist and designer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have spent the past five years working as a professional artist, creating patterns and illustrations for brands around the world. Before beginning my career as an artist, I worked as a graphic designer after earning my degree in Graphic Design from the Rhode Island School of Design.
My artwork has been licensed for fabric, wallpaper, stationery, and home décor by companies worldwide. I have also illustrated books, wall calendars, and clothing. My passion is creating patterns that are distinctive, visually engaging, and stand apart from conventional pattern design.
In this course, I will share my signature approach to pattern design, emphasizing the creation of original artwork and the importance of developing your own recognizable style.

Course Outline
The course has 6 modules for 5+ hours of learning and practicing. It also includes full-length artwork tutorials! You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want. The course is suitable for everyone: teens, adults, and children, because there is no explicit content. It would be best to take the course in order, because it will start from the basics to lessons at a more advanced level, such as digitizing your patterns.

Let me tell you more about my methodology and the platform structure...
My process combines traditional and digital techniques, from gathering inspiration and creating original artwork to digitizing it and building a finished repeating pattern.
I’ll show you how I develop layouts, make adjustments so patterns flow naturally, explore color variations, and visualize designs on real-world products.
Requirements: iPad, Apple Pencil, Procreate, and art supplies of your choice.
All videos are available in Full HD, with adjustable playback speed, volume, and video quality. Watch and revisit the lessons anytime, at your own pace.

Approaching a new technique means first learning how best to use the tools and materials at your disposal. We will look together at the materials, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin this journey.

Theory is important, but what makes you a true artist is practice... Lots of practice! You'll find lots of exercises to get started with and from which to get inspiration. I will show you some tricks that will help set up your personal practice.
